China will establish a global real-time communication system "Hong Yan Xing Zuo" in 2020.

In 2020 China will build a global real-time communication system that will provide an integrated information service and a real-time data communication service world-wide, according to a Science and Technology Daily report.

The system, "Hong Yan Xing Zuo" translated literally as "swan goose constellation", is comprised of the global data processing center and 60 low earth orbit microsatellites. It can realize two-way communication under varied topographical conditions.

The report says the system is integrated with multiple functions including data collection, data exchange, Automatic Identification System (AIS) and mobile broadcasting. All functions can be utilized globally.

The data collection function enables users to collect accurate information from a wide range of areas. It also can meet the needs of supervision data transfer in many fields including ocean, meteorology, environmental protection, geology and disaster prevention.

Communication in the maritime sector will greaty improve with the AIS, allowing information to be sent and recieved comprehensively by ships across the world. The AIS will allow improved communication over real-time information such as status, locations, and trajectory, specifically aiding long-distance travel.
In aviation, the system can track down and monitor the location of airplane globally and enhance flight safety and rescue.

Also the system will provide an information broadcast channel for the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System and help improve the overall location accuracy.
