At 5:49 p.m. Beijing time on June 3，2010, Wang Yue, the volunteer from China, and five other volunteers from Russia, France and Germany are starting the 520-day simulated journey to Mars with the Mars500 laboratory hatch closed in Moscow, Russia. China Great Wall Industry Corporation ( CGWIC ) , the primary coordinator, has succeeded in promoting China’s participation in Mars500 mission.

Mars500 mission is a Mars exploration plan co-conducted by the Russian Federal Space Agency and the European Space Agency to study mankind’s physiological and psychological changes on the journey to Mars and to explore the possible conditions confronting mankind’s life activities on Mars. Mars500 is the only plan for human being’s access to Mars. Launched in 2007, Mars500 has accomplished a 10-day and a 105-day experiments. Now Phase III, the last and the most challenging phase, is ongoing. This is the first international space cooperation project with China space’s participation as a volunteer.
As an important platform for China Space international space cooperation, CGWIC is not only doing the commercial development in the traditional way, but also expanding international cooperation through taking part in international activities, international forums organization and academic works translation, and etc.
