The United States Government recently announced the freezing of four Chinese companies’ assets in the U.S.A., including those of China Great Wall Industry Corp. (CGWIC). CGWIC hereby makes the following statement:
On June 13, 2006, the U.S. Treasury Department named CGWIC in a list of entities whose assets in the U.S.A. are blocked due to CGWIC’s alleged provision of support to Iran’s missile program. CGWIC hereby expresses strong dissatisfaction with and firm opposition to this action.
CGWIC is a responsible and credible state-owned company in China with a core business focusing on international commercial launch services and the import and export of aerospace products, among others. Over the past decades, CGWIC has completed twenty-four international commercial launch missions and six piggyback missions, spread over thirty satellite launches. Commercial satellites successfully launched by CGWIC cover more than 100 countries and regions in Asia, Europe, America and Australia, providing telecommunications services to 75% of the world’s population. Nine out of twelve geo-stationary satellites successfully launched by CGWIC provide direct services to Asia. CGWIC’s mission is to benefit humanity through the application of space technology.
CGWIC is engaged in the peaceful application of space technology, and strictly abides by relevant domestic and international laws, and all commitments made by the Chinese Government towards the international community while providing its launch services, and engaging in international trade and transport services. CGWIC has at no point rendered assistance to any country as part of any weapon of mass destruction program.
It is simply unreasonable that the US Government allege that CGWIC is engaging in proliferation activities and has imposed sanctions, pursuant to its domestic laws, on CGWIC, a company working for the well-being of the people. The true purpose of this action is clear. By applying pressure through its domestic laws, the U.S. Government is seriously interfering in the normal business activities of this Chinese company engaged in business for peaceful purposes, resulting in severe damage to CGWIC’s reputation and economic interests. CGWIC vigorously demands that the U.S. Government corrects its wrongful action, removes CGWIC from the assets to be blocked list and provides compensation for all CGWIC losses. In addition, CGWIC reserves the right to hold the U.S. Government accountable for its responsibilities through various measures including legal means.
