LM- 4 Launch Vehicle

* History

The feasibility study of LM-4 began in 1982. Engineering development was initiated in the following year. Initially, the LM-4 served as a back-up launch vehicle for LM-3 to launch China's communications satellites. After the successful launch of China's first communications satellites by LM-3, the main mission of the LM-4 was shifted to launch of sun£synchronous orbit meteorological satellites.

* Technical Data

LM-4 is a 3-stage liquid propellant launch vehicle developed on the basis of LM-3, especially dedicated for launching different spacecraft for LEO, SSO and GTO missions.

Its launch capability for SSO mission is 2,790 kg, for typical GTO mission is 1,419 kg, for typical LEO mission is 4,595 kg. There are two kinds of fairing available for LM-4 --Type A and B. The static envelope diameter of Type A is 2,360 mm, for Type B is 2,900 mm.
