  • April 7, 1990 --- First flight of a foreign made communications satellite on board Chinese launcher. From Xichang Satellite Launch Site, a LM-3 rocket successfully and precisely sent the Hughes-made AsiaSat-1 satellite into GTO. This success symbolized the entry `of Chinese launchers into the international commercial launch services market. China provided for the first time a launch campaign through live TV broadcast.
  • July 16, 1990 --- Maiden flight of LM-2E, successfully sending a dummy payload and a Pakistani satellite as piggyback payload into orbit. Based on the mature launch vehicle technology , and through 18 months' hard work, LM-2E was developed for the international market. This new version has increased Long March's LEO capability to 9.5 tons.
